MOTD: 8/31/13

Today I wasn't really in the mood to do to much with my makeup so I did a really simple look.

The first thing I did was prime my eyelids with this mini Urban Decay Primer Potion that I got with one of my palettes.

After I primed my lids I used a NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Strawberry Milk that I just bought the other day(comment if you want me to do a haul) all over my lids and did a tiny bit of blending with my finger.

Moving on to mascara I used the Maybelline Mega Plush and that's all I did to my eyes.

I then used the NYX Brow Cake in Blonde, taking the lighter of the two powder shades and filled in my brows.  Then I took the wax using the small angled brush it comes with and used that to set my brows so they stay in place.

After I finished with my eye and brow makeup I moved on to my face.  I don't wear foundation everyday, I mainly use it for special occasions because I have pretty good skin.  I will use a BB cream though if I want to look a bit more "put together."  I just used a bit of my e.l.f. Tone Correcting Concealer in Light Beige on a few blemishes I have.

Then for my lips I decided to use my new NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in San Paulo.  It's a really nice dark pink color, it's hard to describe but it's really pretty.  This lip product is suppose to be in between a lipstick and a lipgloss.  I don't  want to go into to much detail but if you want me to do a review comment down below.

Mac and Sephora Haul!

Hey everyone!  So I'm sorry that this post is going to be late but this week is my first week back to school and its been a bit hectic. So yeah sorry for the delay and I hope you enjoy this haul!

Mac Cosmetics:
So I just picked up a few things from Mac while I was at the mall.  The first thing I got were two eyeshadows called Shadowy Lady and Wedge.  Shadowy Lady is a nice matte dark purple color that is really pretty.  It is great to use as eyeliner or for a darker eye look.  The pictures I took of the shadow really don't should how pretty it is and the true color.  The other shadow I got, Wedge, is a matte medium brown and just a great color to use I'm your crease.  Again the picture doesn't do it justice.  The woman who did my makeup the first time I went into Mac used both of these colors and I wanted to pick them up.  Both the shadows I bought were pro palette pan refills and they are $10.

( I apologized for the bad picture, the lighting wasn't the best)

The next thing I got was the Pro Palette Large/Single.  I picked this up because I had bought two more pro palette pan refill shadows and I didn't want to keep buying the small palettes every time I went into Mac so I decided to just buy a palette.  The I also picked up the Pro Palette Eye Shadow x15(insert) to put in the palette.  The Pro Palette Large/Single was $8 and the Pro Palette Eye Shadow insert was $2.

Sephora:
So I really went into Sephora to get the Benefit Real Birthday Turn Ons free birthday gift.  Now it isn't my birthday I just accidentally put the wrong birthday in  when I was signing up for the Sephora Beauty Insider Card online.  But I decided to pick the free gift up anyways because it had two samples of products that have wanted to try for a while now.
There are two small sample size products in this gift.  The first thing is the Watt's Up Hightlighter.  This highlighter is in a stick form and the full size packaging and the sample's packaging are both really cute. It is a nice seer champagne color and is perfect for cheeks, brow bones, or where ever else you want to highlight.  I think this color really complements my fair ski tone and so far I really like it but I want to use it a but more before telling you guys my final opinion.

The other thing in the set is the Benefit They're Real Mascara.  Now I haven't tried this product yet but I am really excited to because I have heard so many wonderful things about this mascara and the brush looks really interesting.

Now the last thing I bought is the Benefit Gettin' Cheeky! Sampler.  Now this set includes three of the small tints from Benefit.
In this set there is Posie Tint lip and cheek tint which is a nice poppy-pink color. The next tint is Sun Beam which is a golden bronze highlighter.  The last tint is Cha Cha Tint which is personally my favorite and it is a mango-tinted lip and cheek tint.  Now I have only tried Posie and Cha Cha tint as lip tints but they have pretty much become my everyday lip colors lately.  Out of the two Cha Cha tint is my favorite mainly because it gives me a nice red orange colored lip and I love red lip colors.  Now when you first see these tints they are really scary looking because they are so bright but on the lips they look really different.  I don't want to talk about them to much but if you want to see a review on them, like this post and tell me in the comments below.

The other tint in the set is Sun Beam which is a golden bronze highlighter and I have only used it once and I think it might be a bit to dark for me.  I have really fair skin so the golden bronze color might not work that well for me but I'm going to keep trying to see what I think about it.  I think that this would look really good on some who has a darker skin tone or just a nice tan.

So overall I am really happy with my purchases.  I am really excited about the Benefit products because this is my first time trying that brand.  I hope you all enjoyed this post and I apologize again for posting it so late.  Feel free to leave any questions or comments you have down below in the comments

Update!

Hey everyone!  It feels like it's been forever since I last posted but in actuality it's been less than a week.  I am writing this post to tell you guys about upcoming blog posts and what's going on.  So I start up school again tomorrow and that means I will be busier and will have less time to blog.  I have decided to post at least twice a week.  Now I'm not going to be posting on the same days every week but I'm just going to try to post twice a week.  Now if you follow me on Twitter(my username is down below) you would know that I ask if you guys would be interested in me posting a Sephora, Mac, and Ulta haul.  I never made it to any of those stores yesterday unfortunately but I am going to the mall later today and hopefully I will have a haul post up by at the latest tomorrow night.  So if you want to see me do a certain  kind of post please feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments down below.  If you have  any questions you can also leave them in the comments down below also.  And if you didn't know you can find me on Bloglovin, I have put a widget on the side of my blog that enables you to follow me on that site.

My First Mac Haul & Experience

So a few days ago I went to the mall to get some new clothes and I decided that I wanted to check out Mac Cosmetics and maybe buy a few things.  If you don't know what Mac is, it is a high end cosmetic brand that you can only buy at a Mac counter or a Mac store.  It isn't sold at Sephora or Ulta.  A lot of people talk about Mac and it is defiantly one of those brands that many many people talk about in the beauty community.  I had went to a Mac counter in Nordstrom at first because when I had gone to look at the Mac store it was quite crowded.   I went on a Saturday night which didn't really help the fact that it was busy so if you want to go to a Mac store and you actually want someone to do your makeup and try colors out on you, I would recommend going on a weekday.  So I was at the Mac counter at Nordstrom which was equally busy and I was talking to this woman and she said that they didn't sell the pan refills and the palettes that you put them in at Mac counters, only at the actual store.  So I went back to the actual store because I was planning on buying a few pan refills and maybe a 2 or 4 eye shadow palette.  So I went to the store and was eventually helped by a woman named April who also turned out to be the manager.  I asked her if the new eye shadow pan refill($10) and palette prices were temporary or permanent.  She told me that they were the new prices so the eye shadow pan refills are $10 and they used to be $12 and some change. So here are the new prices for the palettes:

Pro Palette Eye Shadow x2- $5
Pro Palette Eye Shadow x4- $8
Pro Palette Large/Single- $8
Pro Palette Large/Duo- $8
Pro Palette Eye Shadow x15(insert)- $2
Pro Palette Blush x6 (insert)- $2

Anyways so April did my eye makeup and I ended up buying Naked Lunch, which is a light colored frost eye shadow.  I also ended up buying Sable, which is also a frost shadow but it is a beautiful mix of plum, gold, and bronze.  I also picked up the Pro Palette Eye Shadow x2 to put eye shadows in.  I think it's a better deal to buy pan refill eye shadows because the regular eye shadows are $15 a piece and it just saves you more money to buy pan refills.  I also picked up a Paint Pot in Painterly which was $20 and it is an eye shadow base for those of you who didn't know.  I picked up one more item that I didn't plan on buying which is the 217 Blending Brush and April used this on me and I have been searching for a good blending brush for quite a while now so I had to get it.  I personally love this brush!  I definitely recommend this if you were going to try out a Mac brush.  The brush was around $25 dollars which is quite expensive.  But I think it is really important to own really good quality brushes that will last you many many years.  I am not going to go into to much detail about brushes because I am planning on doing a whole separate post all about brushes.  So all together I spent about $73 which was way more than I planned on spending.  I am not going to be buying a lot of new makeup until around November because I have been buying a lot of makeup lately.  I probably will be picking up some new brushes and odds and ends like that this weekend but other than that I am going to try and not buy any makeup until November.  So overall I am really happy with my Mac purchase and in the future(aka November) I am hopefully going to be buying some more of their products.  I recommend that if you want to try Mac eye shadows,  then buy pan refills just because they save you money.

Review: Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer

Now I'm sure we have all seen the commercial for the Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer where the girl sprays on the moisturizer, rubs it in, and then puts her clothes on ridiculously fast.  Now this product claims to moisturize in seconds which is a pretty big claim to make.  I personally don't really like lotion.  It takes forever to sink into my skin and always leaves me feeling greasy.  Now I have been using this product for over a month or two now and I really like it.  I originally bought it because I liked the concept of it.  The product reminds me of sunscreen by the way that you pretty much spray it on your body.  Now I mainly use it on my legs because I don't have very dry skin except my legs which can get a little dry.  I literally spray it, rub it into my skin, give it a little bit less than a minute, and then I'm good to go!  It doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy but instead it feels moisturized.  The cap twists to lock and unlock, kind of like a bottle of sunscreen.  It retails for $5.94 at Target and comes in three different scents.  It comes in Aloe Fresh, Cocoa Radiant, and Total Moisture.  I bought mine in Aloe Fresh and the scent somewhat reminds me of regular aloe that you would rub on sunburn.  I think that it does live up to the claim that it moisturizes in seconds and I think that this product is perfect for travel because of it's size and the fact that it sinks into your skin so fast and doesn't leave you greasy.  I would definitely recommend this to someone who doesn't like to use lotion because of the way it feels, or even someone who is just interested in trying this product.

Small Target Haul!

I went to Target last night to pick up some school supplies and ended up picking up a few makeup items as well.

Disclaimer: I bought all these products with my own money.  I am not being sponsored by any company and everything I write is my own opinion.

The first thing I picked up was a repurchase of one of my favorite lip balms, the Nivea A Kiss of Milk & Honey. If you want to read more about it, I included it in my last post, Hits & Misses.  I can't remember the exact price but I know it was under $3.
The next thing I picked up was a travel pack of my favorite Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes.  I thought it would be good to put in my school backpack.  Again if you want to read more about it I have a whole post about it.  I am not sure of the price, but it probably wasn't to expensive.

The Clean & Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets were something that I wanted to try.  They are $4.49 and come with 50 in a small pack that is great for throwing in your purse.  I tried one out last night and it absorbed the oil around my nose quite nicely.  It says it won't smudge makeup but I don't know if that is true because I wasn't wearing makeup when I used it.
The next thing I got is the Vaseline Aloe Lotion.  I can't remember the price exactly but I think it was around $2.  I have never tried this before so I don't have anything to say about it yet but I picked it up because I was out of lotion.

The Covergirl CG Smoothers BB Cream is something I have wanted to try for a while now.  A lot of people say that it is exactly the same as the Covergirl CG Smoothers Tinted Moisturizer and that is why I bought it.  I wanted a tinted moisturizer and I can't ever really find one in the drugstore.  Target didn't sell the Covergirl Tinted Moisturizer and the only place that I know that sells it is Ulta.  So I just picked up the BB cream and I am actually wearing it right now.  So far I like it!  This retails for $6.94 and comes in three shades.  I got mine in the lightest shade, 805 fair to light.

I picked up another Covergirl product and that is the Covergirl Lipslicks Smoochies Lip Balm in the shade 220 Text Me.  It is basically a tinted lip balm and I tried it last night and it has really nice pigmentation.  It was $4.94 and I am not sure about the color on me.  It doesn't look bad but I have to wear it a few more times to tell what I think about the color.  Other than that the product feels nice on my lips.
I was in the Maybelline section and noticed that they had a new Baby Lips Electro.  Now Target only sells it online so it was kind of weird that there was one.  I looked through all of the Baby Lips(the regular ones) and found another Electro in the yellow shade(Fierce N Tangy) but I decided to go with the purple one(Berry Bomb).  It has a nice sheer purple color and I am a fan of the original Baby Lips.  The online price is $2.99 but I'm not sure how much I paid for it.
I picked up two e.l.f. brushes, the Smudge Brush and the Blending Brush.  I don't have many brushes so I thought that it would be nice to get a few more.  I have the powder brush from e.l.f.'s studio line and I like that one.  The brushes were $1 each, which is really inexpensive.  I have tried the blending one and it is an ok brush but I haven't tried the Smudge one yet.  I would recommend e.l.f. brushes if you are looking for inexpensive brushes.

The last thing I picked up was the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in clear.  This is a clear mascara that can also be used as brow gel.  I picked this up because I wanted to try a clear mascara to maybe wear to school because I don't usually wear makeup to school often.  I am excited to try this and it was only $4.44

Hits & Misses: New Products I've Tried

Disclaimer: I bought all these products with my own money.  I am not being sponsored by any company and everything I write is my own opinion.

Hits:

Nivea A Kiss of Milk & Honey Lip Balm:  I picked up this lip balm last month mainly because of the name.  I wasn't sure I was going to like it but now it's one of my favorite, if not my favorite lip balm.  What I like about this product is that when it's on your lips the product doesn't feel to thin and like it's just sitting on top of your lips.  I have noticed that my lips have been softer when using it and even when not using it, which is something I look for in a lip balm.  I am already planning to repurchase it the next time I go to the store because mine broke and I just love it that much.  The packaging is similar to the Maybelline Baby Lips.  All over it's a great product that really works and is under $3!  I highly recommend anyone that wants softer lips to check out this product.
Dove Refresh+Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo:  I haven't been using this dry shampoo for very long but I have to say that so far I like it.  I use it in my hair in between washes and I feel like it helps to refresh and revive my hair.  The product does have a nice fragrance to it but I can't really describe what it smells like.  I have noticed that the fragrance does linger on your hair and will stay throughout most of the day, so if you don't like hair products that have lingering scents I wouldn't recommend getting this one.  Overall I am really happy with this product, it doesn't make my hair greasy like some dry shampoos and I would repurchase it but not right away because there are a few other dry shampoos I want to try out, but I would definitely recommend this to someone who is looking for a good dry shampoo.  This retails around $3.94 and you can find it at your local drugstore.

Vanilla Berry Sorbet Hand Soap and PocketBac from Bath and Body Works:  I picked up the deep cleansing hand soap and a hand sanitizer in Vanilla Berry Sorbet from Bath and Body Works all the way back in June and have been loving it ever since.  The Bath and Body Work's website describes it as "lightly scented with a cool blend of vanilla sorbet topped with sweet raspberries and juicy strawberries."  I have to agree with them because that is pretty much what it smells like.  My friend recommended it to me and I honestly wasn't sure I would like it because it's kind of sweet and it isn't the kind of scent I would normally go for.  I recommend that anyone who likes sweet scents or even fruity scents stop by the store and go smell it.  I also recommend the deep cleansing hand soap from B&BW because it is honestly my favorite soap and isn't really as thin as other soaps I have used.  I also like the hand sanitizer because they come in all kinds of scents and they almost always have the 5 for $5 deal.  The hand soap retails for $5.50 but they usually have some kind of deal on the soaps.  The PocketBac retails for $1.75 but it is a better deal to do the 5 for $5.

 Misses:

NYC Smooth Skin Perfecting Primer:  I have to say that I am really disappointed with this product.  I honestly didn't wear it long enough to tell if it was actually making my makeup last longer or do any of the other things it claims to.  This primer only comes in one shade which is shade 684.  It is pretty much just white like a moisturizer and when you rub it in, it appears clear.  I was really hoping to like this primer because it was $4.69 which was the cheapest primer I found on the Target website, and I honestly didn't want to pay to much for a primer.  When I actually put it on, it was fine until I noticed my fingers were all sparkly and pretty much has specks of glitter on them.  I then looked at my face and noticed that when the light hit it, there was all these specks of glitter on my face.  I personally am not someone who likes sparkles or glitter, I am more of a matte person.  I mean the glitter really threw me off and that is pretty much the reason why I don't like this primer.  I am sure if I put foundation over it the glitter wouldn't be noticeable but I really just didn't want to even try it again.  From looking at the packaging there is no way anyone would know that there is glitter in this product.  Even when I read the description on the back and it said, "complexion looks luminous, natural, and fresh all day," I didn't suspect it had glitter in it.  It also says it can be worn alone but I would never do that, it wouldn't really look natural.  I don't really recommend this primer but I'm sure there is someone out there that likes it.

Maybelline Color Whisper Lipstick in Coral Ambition:  I want to start off saying that what I don't like about this product is the color, not the actual product itself.  I haven't worn the lipstick enough to tell you my opinions on the product.  I picked this up because I have heard a lot of people say great things about it.  I was originally going to pick the lipstick up in the shade Pin up Peach but when I got to Target they were out of that shade along with many others.  So I picked up the shade Coral Ambition which I had thought about buying before I had seen the other shade online.  Because I am newer to makeup and don't have a lot of lip products, I wasn't sure what colors I would look good in.  I had seen something on Pintrest about corals looking good on people who have fair skin, which I have.  Thinking back to it now, it might have said orange corals because this lipstick is more of a pink coral.  The packaging makes it hard to see what the color looks like and the bottom doesn't have a sticker showing the color either.  Other than that I do really like the packaging.  I may try to work with the color and see if there is anything I can do to make it look better because I can't return it.  Overall the color just didn't work for me which is really upsetting considering it was $5.94 but I am planning on buying this lipstick again in the future, just in a different color.

Honorable Mention:

Revlon Colorburst Lipbutter in Peach Parfait:  I didn't really want to put this product as a miss because I am more just disappointed with the color I bought than anything.  Even though this is kind of the same situation as the Maybelline Color Whisper Lipstick, I can actually still wear this product.  So I just decided to put this as an honorable mention.  I bought this product at the same time as the Maybelline Color Whisper and just like the Maybelline lipstick, they were out of the shade I wanted(which was Juicy Papaya) and a lot of the other shades.  I think with both of these lipsticks if I had just taken more time to actually look at the product and the color choices I would have probably bought shades I would have been more happy with.  I picked up the lipbutter in the shade Peach Parfait which is kind of like a darker pink.  I didn't realize till I got home that there was little specks of glitter in this product.  I had wanted a matte color or even a color with a bit of shine but not glitter.  Now the reason I don't regret this purchase as much as the Maybelline one, is because I have tried out this shade and it doesn't really look bad on me and I can probably still get use out of this product.  I mean I could wear it if I ever felt like wearing a sparkly lipstick.  One thing I really like about this product is the packaging.  The whole "cap" is a sheet light pink color so you can see through it but on the very top there is almost like a window, so you can look down at the product and tell what shade it is.  Also on the bottom there is a sticker telling the shade and is the actual color of the shade.  On the sticker there is even specks of glitter that you can see in the light to show that it is a sparkly color.  Overall I wish I had purchased this product in a different color but I could still wear this.  It was $6.49 so I am a bit sad about that but in the future I would like to repurchase this product but in a different shade.

If you have tried any products that I mentioned above, please comment and tell me what you thought of them.  Also if you want you can leave a response to this post by linking a link to your Hits & Misses post down in the comments below.  And as always if you have any questions or comments you can post them in the comments.

5 Smart Shopping Tips

I know this is a pretty much a beauty blog but I also like to post about other things that aren't necessary beauty products but relate to beauty.  I just thought I should put that out there before a start this post.

Tip #1: Research
I pretty much always research a product before I buy it.  I find that when I research  products, most of the time I don't usually regret buying them.  I watch YouTube videos and read reviews on a product and most of the time that helps me decide if I think I'm going to like it.  Because I research it i have a better chance of knowing that I will like it so I don't waste my money, especially if I buy something expensive.

Tip #2: Check the Sales
Always check the sale items in a store!  Sometimes you can find really good deals for items on sale, especially in the drugstore.

Tip #3: Coupons!
Use coupons!!!!  I know Ulta always has a coupon out and most if the time you can find coupons in magazines for drugstore makeup.  Even if the coupon is just for a dollar off you should still use it because then you have a dollar to put toward something else.

Tip #4: Compare Deals & Prices
Always make sure before you buy something that you can't get it cheaper or a better deal somewhere else.  For example when ever I look at the Ulta website the drugstore makeup is always at least $1 more than if I had bought it at Target.  At Target I can buy a Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush for $6.99 and at Ulta it's $7.99.  You would think that Target would have a better deal but Ulta is having a buy one get one 50% off deal on Maybelline products.  So if I rounded $6.99 to $7 and $7.99 to $8 then added up the total of what it would cost to buy two blushes at each store it would cost $14 at Target and $12 at Ulta.  Even though Target seemed to be the better deal, going to Ulta saved you two dollars and you got a better deal.  Ulta usually has some kind of deal on their drugstore makeup.

Tip #5: Does it come in a travel size?
If you want to try out a product but you aren't sure if you will like it or not, see if it comes in a smaller size or a travel size.  I find especially with more expensive products that have to deal with hair or skincare that I don't want to buy a whole big size of it if I'm not 100% sure I will like it.  A lot of times products will come in smaller or travel sizes and that is a good way to try out a product to see if you like it or not.

Do you have any smart shopping tips that I didn't mention above?  If you do please put them in the comments down below!

Review: NYX Eyeshadow Base in Skin Tone

Not a lot of people really think about eye primers and eyeshadow bases as much as the eyeshadow itself.  But a lot of the time they are just what you need to make  your eyeshadow really pop and last throughout the day.  Earlier in June I picked up the NYX Eyeshadow Base in Skin Tone.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with NYX, they are a drugstore cosmetic brand.  Where I live you can only find NYX in the drugstore section of Ulta, but I don't know if that is the same for everyone.  The eyeshadow base comes in three different colors: white, pearl, and skin tone.  I picked up skin tone because I do a lot of natural makeup looks.  The product comes in a small plastic jar like container and you just unscrew the plastic top to open it.  The packaging is pretty good quality and small and compact enough for traveling.  This product claims to hold, intensify, and  make your eyeshadow last longer.  I think that this product really lives up to the claims it makes.  I just apply it with my fingers and then let it set for a minute before applying eyeshadow.  I haven't really had the product crease on me and a little bit goes a long way.  It is $6.99 at Ulta, and I know that seems kind of pricey for such a small product but honestly I have been using it for about two months and I have barely made a dent in it.  And like I said earlier a little bit goes a long way.  Besides Ulta almost always has the buy 1, get 1 at 50% off deal on their drugstore cosmetics.  To sum it all up I really like this product, it really helps to make my eyeshadow look better, last longer, and stay put.  It is also cruelty free, meaning that they don't test on animals which is something I really like.  I defiantly recommend this to someone who is looking for a good eyeshadow base.  I like it so much that the next time I'm at Ulta I plan on picking up the eyeshadow base in white for some of my lighter, more pastel colored eyeshadows.

Review: e.l.f. Tone Correcting Concealer

I really love trying new e.l.f. products.  Eyes Lips Face (aka e.l.f) is a drugstore makeup brand that makes really inexpensive products.  Most of their products range from $1, $3, to $6.  They do have more expensive products but a majority of them are really cheap.  I love that e.l.f. is so inexpensive because then I can try more of their products and if I don't like them I'm not so upset because I'm not losing a lot of money.  And if it turns out I like them then I can get a good product for a really low price.  I don't know of another place besides Target and Walgreens that sell e.l.f. products but you can check out their website( eyeslipsface.com). I picked up the tone correcting concealer at Target for $1.  It is a liquid concealer and the packaging looks a lot like a lipgloss.  It has a doe foot applicator and is small enough that you could just throw it in your purse or pocket.  I picked it up in the shade light beige because my Target only sells it in two shades: light beige and dark beige.  But on the website it comes in 7 different shades.  The light beige actually works really well with my skin tone and blends quite nicely.  I usually just take the doe foot applicator and put some concealer on whatever I want to conceal, then blend it out with my fingers.  I like to use it on blemishes because it hides them pretty well and lasts really long with out having to be set with powder.  I do use this under my eyes and it doesn't have enough coverage there for me because I have really dark under eye circles and purple undertones under my eyes.  It does cover most of the darkness but I need a full coverage concealer for under my eyes.  It would be fine for anyone who doesn't have really dark under eye circles.  I would definatly recommend and repurchase this product.
It is pretty good quality for just $1!
